Zion Tachan completed his undergraduate studies in the Department of Chemistry at Bar Ilan University focusing on material science. During his master thesis he developed a spray pyrolysis instrument for metal oxide depositions. Using this technique he was capable to create fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) recipe, which enabled him to use it as a back contact electrode in dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC), moreover it opened a path toward a novel approach for a new solar cell design. He is currently conducting his Ph.D research on the development of materials, methods and treatments which will lead to better control over the electronic features of interface of different semi-conductors. During his Ph.D he contributed a great progress in the field of quantum dot sensitized solar cell (QDSSC), by replacing the counter electrode to highly catalytic one. Furthermore the formation of thin MgO coating layer which used to control the electronic properties of the semiconductor interface. He is currently conducting an intensive research on improving the electrolyte in the QDSSCs.

2010 – Rieger Foundation, Rieger-JNF Fellowship Award for future long-term contributions toward the improvement of the environment in Israel.

2010 – Institute for Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials - Bar-Ilan University Scholarship for excellent Ph.D student.

2010 – Faculty of Exact Sciences - Bar-Ilan University. Dean's Award for Outstanding Ph.D student.

2009 – Bar-Ilan University President's Scholarship for excellent Ph.D student.

2009 – Prize for the best poster award in a national student conference of Israeli Universities' faculties of exact sciences, held atBar-IlanUniversity.

2008 – Prize for the best poster, faculty of exact science award, in a student conference, Bar-Ilan UniversityResearch.
